City Skies

City Skies

Greenwich Village, Saturday, February 4, 2023

For years, I’ve been taking photos of the skies out the window of my 13th-floor, south-facing Greenwich Village apartment. The apartment is small. The sky is vast, glorious and ever-changing.

Going back through these photos recently, I was surprised and impressed with how many images I’ve collected and displeased that I’ve done nothing with them except occasionally send a few to relatives and friends.

Not acceptable, as my good friend Kalia reminds me. I know what gazing at the skies out my window does for me: the sweet sense of calm and awe that fills me up and soothes my soul. If sharing these photos gives others even a small taste of that, how can I not share them? Life is difficult. We need to spread the beauty around.

So welcome to City Skies, a new ongoing blog post where I’ll regularly be adding images from my archive. To kick things off, please enjoy the photos posted here, all taken on Saturday, February 4, 2023, when temperatures were rising from frigid to merely cold and the sky went through many changes.

There are no fancy tricks behind these photos, by the way. I just point my iPhone and Nature does the rest.

Hi Gini, Great photos! Beautiful sky (and skyline).   There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature—the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.

    Stay safe,Duane.
